The Amazon River in Brazil is situated within the large Amazon Rainforest which occupies most of the Amazona State. The River and its tributaries run across the northern parts of the country. The river empties large amounts of water into the Atlantic Ocean. The Amazon River is the largest river in the world in terms of volume and the second longest after the Nile River in Africa.

The Amazon River is home to thousands of fish species, turtles, snakes and crabs.
The Piranha: This is a unique fish carnivorous fish found in the river. The Piranha feeds mainly on other small fish and generally do they attack humans, though some species have a tendency for this and care should be taken. The Amazon is also famous for the Anaconda Snake, which is one of the largest snake species in the world alongside the African Python. There have been a number of isolated cases of Anacondas attacking local fishermen.
Tours:
Tours are organized locally for visits to the Amazon River. These are usually boat trips or ferry rides down the river with an experienced guide. The tours can be booked prior to arrival to Brazil. Common tour activities include; Camping, Bird watching and River Cruises. There are also a number of lodges offering quality temporary accommodation.
