Blumenau is a southern Brazilian City in the state of Santa Catarina. An important city in the region, Blumenau has a population of about 265,000 residents. The City was founded in 1850 by a German Immigrant; Herman Otto Blumenau. The City’s current population consists mainly of descendants of German and Italian migrants, which is typical of many southern Brazilian Cities. The German culture is still very strong and maintains a heavy presence in local society. The German language is widely spoken by locals here.

Economy:

Blumenau is a leading economy in the state and is home to one of the largest textile industries in the world. The manufacturing industry here also produces; pharmaceutical products and metal works.

Blumenau is an affordable and conducive tourist destination. The city has a number of quality low-priced hotels and motels for visitors.

The Oktoberfest:

The Oktoberfest held in Blumenau is a child of the German Oktoberfest held in Munich each year. The festival is a major tourist attraction with about a million locals and international visitors attending it each year. The festival is held annually from the 10th to the 27th of October.

Other major attractions within the city are mainly historical buildings, museums, recreational parks and monuments well maintained from the early years of the colony. Popular ones are; the Fritz Muller Museum, Artex Park, the Colonial Family Museum and the Fundacao Casa Doutor Museum.
