Postal Services

Postal Services in Brazil:

Postal services in the country are relatively low cost and reliable for sending mail locally. International mail attracts a higher price. Postal services in the country are solely operated by ECT (Empresa Brasileira de Correios e Telegrafos) which employs close to a hundred thousand workers to deliver mail to even the most distant of locations in the country. There are numerous post offices (known as Correio) in most towns and cities where you can purchase stamps, stationery and send your mail and parcels.

The postal service in the country has a good reputation for safety and reliability though it is not advisable to send valuable items and money by post. Local mail can take up to five days to be delivered depending on the destination.

International mail takes about seven days to European destinations and more for Asia and Australasia. Besides letters, you can also send a telegram or parcels (usually expensive for international destinations) at a post office.
