Rail Transport:
Despite its large size, Brazil has a well developed rail network covering most parts of the country. Rail transport however is not a very popular option for passenger transport, as it is considerably slower than taking a bus. Long distance passenger services do not exist for many destinations.
The rail transport industry in Brazil was previously owned by the Federal Government and from 1996 has been undergoing privatization. The country’s rail network is used mainly for cargo transport; carrying agricultural and industrial products.
Boats and Ferries:
Boats and ferries are used for transport on wide rivers and canals and can be a good means of experiencing the nature here especially at the Amazon region. Popular ferry services exist in Salvador providing a vital link from the islands on which the city is built and the mainland.
With the many rivers in the country, small boats are often used and can be hired for a tour. Small boat trips are very popular in the Amazon and at the Iguaçu falls.
