Brazilian Food

The food in Brazil is an infusion of a variety of local and foreign cultures that form the present day Brazilian population. Cuisine and food selections vary in different regions of the country making it difficult to identify a national dish. Cities and states define themselves with their own unique dishes.

While dining out you can find foods from; Europe, Local Afro, Amerindian or an amalgamation of these.

Examples of Brazilian Foods:

Acaraje:

Acaraje is a deep-fried pastry like food made from skinless mashed beans. This is then fried in local “dende” oil and served with a variety of sauces or salad depending on your preference. The food is especially popular in Bahia.

Feijoada:

Feijoada which is normally referred to as the Brazilian National dish, is said to have been first introduce in the country by African Slaves who had to make do with what was available to them then. The dish is popular nationwide and is served at restaurants even the upper end ones. The meal is basically a stew consisting of pork. This is served with rice which is a staple food in Brazil together with a side dish usually Mendioca (consisting of sausage, cut mustard and bacon which is fried).
