Radio and Television in Brazil:

Brazilian television can be at times entertaining and sometimes very haphazard and unprofessional. Media in the country and in South America is the domain of Globo Media Group which also publishes a newspaper and runs radio stations. The Globo Media Group is owned by local Magnate Robert Marinho. The Globo Channel’s transmissions have a nationwide reach in terms of coverage.

Locally produced television programs include; current affairs programs, comedies and soap operas. Over 90 percent of the country’s households have a television set. Television is popular for soccer coverage with Brazilians glued to their sets during matches. Their soap operas have even found their way into overseas markets with English voice-overs and are watched as far as in some African countries.

Other Major television stations in Brazil are: Band, Record, Rede Cultura, Rede TV, Rede Vida, SBT and RIT. There is also an MTV channel in the country which is part of the Music Television (MTV) worldwide group also available in America, Europe, Australasia and Africa.

Radio in Brazil:

There are numerous radio stations in the country transmitting on FM frequencies. Many of these play local music though you should not be surprised to hear the latest international hits on local radio.
