Brazil States and Regions:
Brazil has a federal republic government system. The country is divided into 26 states locally known as Estados and the Brasilia Federal District. These states are categorized into the five regions of; North, Northeast, Center-west, South and South-east.
The North Region (The Amazon Region):
The North consists of the States of; Acre, Amazonas, Para, Amapa, Rondonia, Roraima and Tocantins. Home to the large Amazon forest, this region is not as developed as other parts of the country mainly due to conservation efforts aimed at preserving the natural rainforest which covers most of it.
The North-East Region:
The North-East consists of; Alagoas, Bahia, Ceara, Maranhao, Paraiba, Pernambuco, Piaui, Rio Grande do Norte and Sergipe.
Central-West Region:
This region consists of; Mato Grosso, Goias, Mato Grosso do Sul and the Brasilia Federal District.
South-East Region:
This is the most populous of the five regions in the country and consists of the States of; Espirito Santo, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Minas Gerais.
Rio and Sao Paulo are two of the largest and most populous cities in the world.
South Region:
Home to a large part of the Brazil’s European population, the region consists of; Santa Catarina, Paranama and Rio Grande do Sul.
