The Brazilian Government encourages tourism and hence obtaining a visa is not very difficult. There are a number of consulates and embassies in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and major European, Asian and African countries.
You can contact your nearest consulate for information on obtaining a visa and current visa conditions. It is possible to obtain an entry visa on arrival for visitors from a number of European Countries (the basic requirements are; a valid passport, a return ticket and/ or proof of financial resources to purchase a ticket); otherwise, a visa is required before travel.
For a $10 fee, you can apply to extend your tourist visa for another ninety days provided an application is made two weeks before your current visa expires.
On entry you are issued with an entry card by local police; you should good care of this card and make a photocopy in case you lose it.
In the event of losing your entry card which is normally attached to your passport, you are required to report to the police who issue you with a three day mandate to return to your point of entry to obtain another entry card.
