Music in Brazil



Music is a very integral part of the Brazilian culture. Local music in the country draws its influences from the different cultures in the country mainly native Amerindians, African and Portuguese influences. The Samba and Bossa Nova Music genres are the most widely known and local bands often travel to entertain overseas audiences. Music here is usually accompanied by dance and is a major source of entertainment at nightclubs, during football matches and festivals. There are also a number of local radio stations playing local hits.

Popular bands which have toured the world performing over recent years include; The Bossacucanova Band which has made tours of Europe and Asia. This band specializes in a unique mix of Bossa Nova and Electronica. There have also been a number of Samba bands that have traveled as far as Australia to perform.
Brazilian music is available locally within the country at music stores and on the internet in CD formats.

Samba Music:

Samba is a type of Afro-Brazilian music that developed originated from Rio and became popular due to being part of the Carnaval festivities.

Bossa Nova:

This type of music was introduced in the 1950s and is an infusion of Samba and Jazz. Bossa Nova became a popular music genre quickly spreading into North America where its style was adopted by a number of artistes from the United States.
