Campinas
is one of the major cities in the State of Sao Paolo situated to
the west of Rio de Janeiro. The City was founded in 1774 as a small
trading post for miners and local farmers. It has an estimated
population of 1 million residents. Crime mainly caused by urban
migration and unemployment has recently started becoming a serious
problem especially in the City’s favelas.
Economy:
Campinas is an economically vibrant industry with hundreds of
industries and international firms based here. A technology advanced
city, industry in Campinas produces; automobiles, electronics,
telecommunication equipment, petroleum refining, food processing
and pharmaceutical products.
Transport:
Campinas is adequately linked to other towns and cities in Sao
Paolo via highways. The City is home to the Viracopos International
Airport which caters for domestic and international passenger
and cargo flights.
Tourism:
Campinas is more of a commerce city and most visitors here are
usually on business trips or locals seeking employment. However
there are a few interesting places to visit such as; the Coffee
Museum, the Aquatic History Museum, the Monsenhor Jose Salim
Ecological Park, the Santa Genebra Forest and the Sciences Dynamic
Museum. Campina also has a number of night clubs featuring live
entertainment and a variety of restaurants serving local and
foreign cuisine.
