Communication means in the country are; Postal services for sending mail, the internet and telecommunication.

Postal Services:

Postal services in the country are relatively low cost and reliable for sending mail locally. International mail attracts a higher price. Postal services in the country are solely operated by ECT (Empresa Brasileira de Correios e Telegrafos) which employs close to a hundred thousand workers to deliver mail to even the most distant of locations in the country. There are post offices in most towns and cities where you can purchase stamps, stationery and send your mail and parcels.

The Internet and Email:

Internet services in the country are widespread. There are a number of internet cafes in even the smallest of towns. High speed internet is available in the major cities such as Rio. Some hotels also provide internet facilities for their clients. Internet use is charged at hourly rates which average at about $3.

Telephone services:

Telephone services in Brazil are operated by a number of companies. There are numerous public phones with the blue ones for long distance and inter-city calls and the red ones for local calls. Phone cards are available for purchase to use in public phones.
