Espirito Santo: this coastal Brazilian State is situated to the east of the Minas Gerais State off the Atlantic Ocean. The state is small in size covering an estimated 46,100 square km with an estimated population of 3 million residents.
Vitoria is the Capital City of Espirito Santo and houses the State’s Government. The current Governor is Paulo Hartung. This State is not as culturally diverse as many other states and its population is composed mainly of native Amerindians and Europeans.
Economy:
The Espirito Santo economy relies mainly on the agricultural and manufacturing industry. Agriculture in the State produces: coffee, rice, banana, corn and beef and dairy products. Local industry produces: timber, iron and steel and crude oil.
The tourism industry in Espirito Santo is not as vibrant as that of other coastal states, though this may change as tourists try and escape the populous tourist cities for a much quieter retreat.
Major Cities:
Vitoria: This is the Capital of Espirito Santo situated on an island off the coast. The port at Vitoria is one of the busiest in the country.
Vila Velha: This is the largest and most populous city in Espirito Santo located right at the coastline, southeast of Vitoria.
