Apart from the Carnaval, other small festivals are held around the country during different times of the year. Some festivals are only held in a particular city or town and are seen as a means for local communities to define their individuality and uniqueness.

Festival of Jesus of Navigators in Salvador: This is a major religious festival held in Salvador de Bahia whose high point is a boat procession sailing down the Sao Francisco River.
Sao Paulo International Film Festival: this is an annual film festival that has been held in the city for over thirty years attracting a number of quality international entrants. The festival runs for about a week and dates vary slightly each year.
Oktoberfest in Blumenau: This is the largest Oktoberfest held out of Munich in Germany. The festival attracts a large number of passionate tourists each year.
Trio Eletricos in Salvador: The Trio Electricos is a procession of floats traveling along defined routes within the Salvador City Centre during the carnival. This procession attracts close to 2 million participants and is the highlight of local carnival celebrations here.
The Bumba meu Boi in Sao Luis: Held from the 13th to 30th of June, this is a traditional festival featuring music and dance.
The Festa do Divino in Sao Luiz do Paraitinga: also known as the feast of the divine Holy Ghost is a procession of music and dances held at any time between May and June.
