Florianopolis
(commonly referred to by locals as “Floripa”) is
a southern Brazilian island City and the Capital City of Santa
Catarina
State. The city has a lot of reminders about its past under Portuguese
colonization, which is evident in old villages, fortresses, churches
and museums.

Population as is typical in most parts of southern Brazil.
As of 2004, Florianopolis had an estimated population
of 386,913 residents
and is one of the smallest State capitals in the country.

This City is seen as a paradise island likened to those in the
Caribbean. Florianopolis has about 100 beautiful and unspoiled
white sandy beaches and favorable weather conditions during the
summer making a top destination within South America. Popular
beaches include; Ingleses, Campenche, Joaquina, Santinho, Jurere,
Canasvieiras, Mole and Armacao. Florianopolis also hosts a round
of the World Surf Tour which is televised to many countries around
the world.
The city has a well developed tourism infrastructure consisting
of; quality hotels, restaurants serving an array of seafood cuisine,
pubs and nightclubs for entertainment.
Air services:
Florianopolis is served by the Hercilio Luz International
Airport situated about 11 km from the City Centre. This airport caters
for frequent domestic flights from Brazil’s major cities.
