Goias
is a central Brazilian State whose history dates back to the early
1700s when gold was discovered triggering a gold rush that lasted
until the mid 1800s when reserves were depleted. Goiania is the
Capital City of Goias State with a population of about 1.2 million
residents. The current Governor of Goias is Marconi Perillo. The
State lags behind in terms of development when compared to other
Brazilian States and living standards and literacy levels are very
poor amongst the poor.
The Goias Economy:
With vast lands that have been put to use for agriculture and
livestock rearing, the Goias economy relies mainly on proceeds
from the sales of agricultural products which include; beans,
cotton, rice, corn, sugarcane, dairy and beef products. The State
also has a considerable amount of minerals which include; gold,
manganese, nickel, silver and iron.
Tourism in Goias:
Goiania: This is the largest city in the State and features
a number of tourist attractions including; museums showcasing
local art works, shopping centers, botanical gardens and parks,
restaurants and pubs.
Caldas Novas: This is a major tourist town attracting frequent
local and foreign visitors. The city is popular mainly for its
natural thermal waters. It is also home to a number of quality
hotels, villas, clubs and restaurants.
