Health issues in Brazil:

Brazil has no major health problems apart from the high HIV/ AIDS infection rate being experienced in the country. Visitors to the country should take a note of this and refrain from engaging in casual unprotected sex. If you intend to trek in remote locations especially in the Amazon forest regions, carrying an equipped fast aid kit is essential.

Emergency air rescue services:

You should confirm with your travel insurance company whether you will be covered for this service. Air rescue’s can be very helpful for those visiting remote locations. There is an air rescue service in operation that can conduct evacuation around the country.

Hospitals in Brazil:

There are a number of public hospitals in the cities and towns although public hospital standards in the country are disappointingly appalling. There are long waiting lines, limited facilities and poor service. Hospital Standards may vary depending on the city with some places such as Curitiba having excellent facilities. Private hospitals are usually better and though they can be quite costly they are a better option.

Pharmacies:

There are many pharmacies in the towns and cities which can be very handy especially for basic medication and medical opinion.
