Mato
Grosso (not to be confused with the State of Mato Grosso de Sul),
is a large west Brazilian State south of the Amazonas State. The
State is also bordered to its west by Bolivia. Mato Grosso de Sul
is a state that was established in 1977 by the division of Mato
Grosso. The current State Governor is Blairo Maggi.
Cuiaba City:
Cuiaba is the Capital of Mato Grosso. This is a city with a
long history being established in 1727. It has an estimated population
of half a million residents. The city has a small tourism industry
with a number of attractions including; old architecture and
museums.

The Pantanal:
The Pantanal is regarded as the world’s largest freshwater
wetland and is home to a large marine population. The Pantanal
is fed mainly by the Paraguay River and large amounts of flood
rains during the wet season. The Wetland is situated on the
upper Paraguay River basin along the Brazil-Paraguay-Bolivia
border.
The Chapada dos Guimaraes:
This is a national park established in 1989 which features semi-desert
and tropical vegetation, waterfalls, rivers and interesting rock
formations. The park is popular for hiking along designated trails
and sightseeing.
