The Pantanal is regarded as the world’s largest freshwater wetland and is home to a large marine population. The Pantanal is fed mainly by the Paraguay River and large amounts of flood rains during the wet season. The Wetland is situated on the upper Paraguay River basin along the Brazil-Paraguay-Bolivia border.
Wildlife at the Pantanal:
The Pantanal is a major breeding ground and habitat for hundreds of fish species. Other animals that inhabit the wetland or its environs include; Anacondas, Alligators, Wild Boar, Deer, Jaguar and Otters.
The area also has a very large bird population with over five hundred species which increases during the dry seasons; a marvel of the natural world. Birds to see here include; Ibis, Egrets, Stork and Macaws.
