Paraiba
is another small coastal eastern Brazilian State situated between
Rio Grande Do Norte in the north and Pernambuco in the south. The
State has a population of about 3.5 million people.
The Economy and tourism:
Agriculture is the backbone of the Paraiban economy. The State
produces sugarcane, and cotton. Livestock rearing is also a major
activity here. Local industries in Paraiba produce; leather goods,
cooking oil, textiles and cement. Fishing is also a popular activity
and a source of income for many locals. Tourism is also an important
industry employing many residents of Paraiba. The main attractions
here are the beautiful beach areas along the coast.

Joao Pessoa:
Joao Pessoa is an eastern Brazilian City founded in 1585 by
the Portuguese, making it one of the oldest South American Cities.
The city has an estimated population of 0.65 million residents
and is the most populous city in the state. Joao Pessoa is the
Capital City of Paraiba State. The city has the distinction of
being one of the most “green” cities in the world
only rivaled by Paris.
Other important cities in Paraiba are; Santa Rita, Souza, Patos,
Campina Grande and Areia.
Airports:
The Presidente Castro Pinto Airport is the main airport in Paraiba
providing domestic and international flights.
