Parque Nacional de Tijuca



The Parque Nacional de Tijuca is a Park uniquely situated within the boundaries of Rio de Janeiro City at Floresta de Tijuca and is the largest urban area reserve of its kind in the world.

This is a remnant of the tropical rainforest that once covered most of the State. The park covers an estimated 46 square miles. It is easily reachable from the Rio city centre using public transport with regular buses available from the main bus port.

Tourist attractions:

The park is very popular with hikers and nature lovers and even locals come here to escape as the park offers a reachable peaceful retreat from the busy and noisy city life. Within the park is the Pico de Tijuca which is 3,320 feet high on top of which stands the famous Cristo Redento Statue. There are also the Cascatinha de Taunay waterfalls to see.

The Park is open to the public seven days a week from 8am to 6pm.
