Salvador is a very active city full of energy which is only rivaled by Rio de Janeiro. Popular events taking place here are:

The Trio Eletricos: these pass through designated streets within the City Centre during the carnival. These are normally followed by a procession of merrymakers and the partying goes on till late in the night.

Salvador is also home to a number beaches off the Atlantic Ocean including; Pituba, Stella Maris and Itapoa.

There are also the numerous old churches and buildings which are heritage listed. Most of these are found in the Pelourinho area.

The People of Salvador:

Salvador has a largely “African-origin” population as the City was used as the main port of call for the Slave ships bringing workers for the plantations.

There are African influences in locally practiced religion, and the restaurants which serve a tantalizing array of exotic foods; a must to try.
