Sao Luiz do Paraitinga

Sao Luiz is a small Brazilian town situated in the Sao Paulo State. The City was named so after King Louis XIII of France. The City was established as a municipality in 1773. Tourism forms the backbone of the Sao Luiz economy; many visitors to the country make their way here for that quiet and peaceful small town experience and to escape tourist traffic in the major cities.

Regarded as possibly the most beautiful town in the Country, Sao Luiz has managed to maintain most of its historic past. There are a number of old colonial style buildings, palaces and churches to be found here.

The town hosts a number of cultural festivals most notably;
The Festa do Divino: This is a ten day culturally rich and unique celebration by the Catholic faith here that occurs annually fifty days after Easter.

The town is also famous for being the birthplace of Oswaldo Cruz; the doctor who created the vaccine for yellow fever.
