Sao Goncalo is an industrial City situated on the Riacho River right across from Rio de Janeiro. This is one of the major municipalities in the State of Rio de Janeiro with an estimated population of just under one million residents.

The Sao Goncalo Economy:

Sao Goncalo has a vibrant manufacturing and processing industry which produces; cement, chemicals, glass works and pharmaceuticals.

Air Services and transport:

Sao Goncalo does not have any major airport within the city and domestic flight services are normally conducted at the Santos Dumont Regional Airport and the Galeao Antonio Carlos Jobim Airport for International flights. Both these airports are located in nearby Rio de Janeiro. There is also a rail and highway link from Sao Goncalo to other major towns in Rio State.

Tourism in Sao Goncalo:

As an inland city, Sao Goncalo does not have beaches to attract visitors, though there are a number of monuments and historical buildings to see and the city’s climate is welcoming to visitors.
