Sorocaba
is a southeastern Brazilian city and one of the largest cities
in the State of Sao Paolo. The City has a population of approximately
0.57 million residents. Sorocaba began as a village settlement
in 1654 and was officially granted city status in 1842.
Economy:
The State of Sao Paulo itself is one of the most prosperous
in Brazil, home to a number of industries, rich farmlands, developed
transport infrastructure and an abundance of skilled labor. Major
industries in Sorocaba produce: iron and steel products, chemicals,
farming equipment and machinery, textiles, cement and motor vehicle
spares.
Transport:
Sorocaba has a well developed road network linking it to other
cities and towns in Sao Paolo. There is also a rail link from
between the city and Sao Paolo which travels as far as Argentina
carrying mainly export goods. The city is served by the Sorocaba
airport.
Tourism in Sorocaba:
The City has a fairly developed tourism infrastructure with
a selection of affordable hotels and motels, restaurants and
night clubs for entertainment. The Ibis Sorocaba is probably
the best hotel in the city. You can also find quality accommodation
in nearby Sao Paolo City. Apart from this the city does not have
much to offer in terms of tourist attractions.
